The Story: City Farm House

“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” — A.A. Milne

This galvanized bucket says Farm House on the front, and maybe that’s what first caught my eye. It’s simple, sturdy, unpretentious, one of those pieces that looks at home just about anywhere. I planted it with yellow pansies, violas, and ornamental cabbage. It didn’t take much effort to make something beautiful. Maybe that’s the point.

When I look at this bucket, I think about how many of us crave the country: open skies, slower mornings, the sound of wind through the trees, but find ourselves bound to city blocks, calendars, and glowing screens. I don’t think we’re meant to live that way forever. Even if we can’t escape to an actual farmhouse, I think God keeps inviting us to make one inside ourselves, to build open spaces in our minds, in our prayers, and in our hearts.

This bucket reminds me that we can choose to bring the country wherever we are. We can clear a little space in our day, take a slower breath, watch something grow. We can stop trying to fill every moment with noise and instead, make room for stillness. The kind of stillness that smells like rain and freshly turned soil.

That’s what this piece holds for me—a breath of fresh air, a reminder that peace isn’t only out there somewhere. It’s here, in the small things. A galvanized bucket, a few bright flowers, and a moment to remember what it feels like to be grounded again.

Care Guide

  • Light: Full to partial sun; ideal outdoors near a window or porch.

  • Water: Keep soil evenly moist, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.

  • Placement: Outdoors or in a bright indoor space; rotate for even growth.

  • Freeze Warning: Move indoors or cover during freezing temperatures. Containers are not rooted in the earth; they depend on us for warmth and care.

  • Encouragement: Let this little farmhouse remind you to create your own wide-open space, wherever you are. Step outside when you can. Pray with the windows open. Let your soul breathe.

I prayed over this vessel and for you, the one holding it now, that your soul would find rest, that peace would meet you where you are, and that God would remind you there’s beauty still waiting right outside your door.

“He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3

With you in the soil and the story,

Ellie

A Living Story Disclaimer
Each Restoried Garden begins its journey in my hands but continues its story with you. Every vessel has been cleaned, prepared, and planted with care; however, once it leaves my garden, its life depends on your unique environment and tending. Please note that weather, watering, and placement all influence longevity, and I cannot be responsible for plant performance or wear over time. These pieces are meant to live, grow, and change, a reflection that no story truly ends; it simply takes root somewhere new.
